“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith.” — 1 John 5:2-4
To be sure that you’re loving people, start by loving God. If you love God you will keep his commandments, and in keeping his commandments you will show true love to the people around you. These commandments may appear to be burdens, but on the contrary, through our faith in God that we express by keeping his commandments we can overcome all of the burdens of the world.

In Doctor Who, the doctor’s companions have the privilege to laugh, play, travel, dance, and talk with the one who makes civilizations rise and fall, the one who can be seen acting throughout our history. They also frequently get to play a part in his plan to save humanity. As Christians, we have all of these priveleges with a being infinitely greater than the doctor. How often do we reflect on that?

I think a lot of people get the idea that living for God is boring. On the contrary, it can be a daily adventure. Tonight I finished Acts, which is full of adventures that the Apostles went on. A lot of these were painful, but none could be called boring. I read the last couple chapters next to a firepit at the beach. There was a fire and no people, so I sat there and read my Bible. Soon after, a group of people came and asked if they could share my pit. So I spent the next couple hours with them, and had a brief conversation about the Bible and read Isaiah 53 with a couple of them. This was all a result of my willingness to go to the beach alone and see what God had planned for me there. I don’t know how much of an impact tonight had on the other people at that firepit, but it definitely gave me encouragement to seek adventures in the name of God.
